Simply an absence, advancing slowly, draining colour and sound from everything it touches. And on the farm, an old man has been keeping a secret for decades — one that will reshape everything Aiden thought he knew about the cave, the people who raised him, and the role he was always meant to play.

But the deepest danger is not the darkness. It is love. The kind that refuses to let go. The kind that builds plans and searches for escapes and cannot accept the difference between saving someone and witnessing them. Aiden will have to learn that difference — slowly, honestly, over the length of a life — before he can stand at the threshold and do what the ancient cave paintings have always instructed.
